Questions being hotly debated as to the value and purpose(s) of post-secondary education are headline news.
Can colleges and universities fnd a middle ground between opposing philosophies? Collaboration between
the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system with the Department of Employment and Economic
Development has produced data tools and new processes to support the alignment of academic program
oferings with the labor market needs in Minnesota. Participants will be introduced to diferent types of data
available to program planners to assist in decision makers making.

This 90 minute session will include:
• Philosophical discussion about purposes of higher education
• Strategies colleges and universities use to increase enrollment through changes in curriculum oferings
• Finding the balance between industry needs, return on investment for students and broader purposes within
higher education
• Various tools available to provide data for informed decision making will be demonstrated.
