ACTIVATING COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
PARTNERSHIPS FOR HEALTH WORKFORCE BENEFIT

Utilizing collective impact, the presenters will share a model of collaboration between community colleges and
community health centers (CHCs). Health workforce programs struggle to fnd clinical placements, relevant training
for faculty and advisory board members that provide mutual beneft for both their industry and the colleges. Health
workforce shortages and training for new and incumbent workers continues to be a challenge. This session will
provide examples of successful CHC and college partnerships. The session will ofer tools and suggestions to max-
imize relationships. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a process of inquiry which will assist with
activating partnership opportunities.

• Understand the language of collective impact and collective responsibility
• Learn about innovative, successful partnerships between community colleges and CHCs
• Identify possible primary care partnership opportunities within your community
• Learn strategies for engaging with CHCs in your community
• Explore the various intersections between community colleges and CHCs with regards to meeting the current
and future demands of the primary care workforce

Motivated by decreasing resources and a need for greater efciencies, higher education has increasingly looked for
cost saving solutions. One such strategy is the merging of academic units. Merging academic units involves more
than building common administrative practices. This presentation will focus on the experience of two department
chairs leading mergers.

• Discovering strategies for leading change from pre to post merger
• Creating a department structure to support the merger
• Communicating department changes to internal and external stakeholders
