GROUP COLLABORATION IN THE ACADEMY:
THE CHARACTERISTICS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO EFFECTIVE
GROUP COLLABORATION.

Efective group collaboration is fundamental to the success of any post-secondary education institute yet, there is
evidence to suggest that this seemingly easy concept is not being realized to the magnitude we might expect. This
presentation will illuminate preliminary results of research conducted exploring the antecedent variables that
contribute to successful group collaboration in post secondary education institutes. Specifcally, the personal,
dispositional, and organizational characteristics that promote group collaboration will be discussed.
Participants will:
• Gain knowledge of the constructs under investigation
• Be able to link the constructs in a logical manner
• Understand the role of dispositional, personal, and organization characteristics in enabling group collaboration
• Understand leaderships role in implementing the structural conditions that enable group collaboration
• Have greater understanding of the human resource management required to support efective collaboration

This interactive session will provide the participants with an opportunity to gain a greater awareness and
understanding of the value-added benefts and implications for student success from both college-wide and unit
level planning and assessment processes.
Learning Outcome #1: Participants will be increase their awareness and knowledge of the value-added benefts of
the college-wide planning process.
Learning Outcome #2: Participants will be increase their awareness and knowledge of the value-added benefts of
the college-wide assessment process.
Learning Outcome #3: Participants will be increase their awareness and knowledge of the value-added benefts of
departmental level planning and assessment processes.
