location: Medina

Presented by: Kate Sikerbol, OD Consultant, Coach & CMM Associate, Toronto, ON

A central feature of our lives with others is conversations. As managers and leaders we sometimes encounter, or
even contribute to, patterns of communication that are unproductive. How is it that intelligent people end up in
Unwanted Repetitive Patterns, or URPs? In this experiential workshop, you will be introduced to CMM, the
The Chair Academy’s 24th Annual International Leadership Conference
“coordinated management of meaning” which is a practical theory of communication that defnes conversations as
the primary “stuff” of social life (Pearce, 2001). CMM focuses our attention on ‘what we are creating together’ in our
conversations. In this experiential workshop, participants will learn how to analyze and examine the underlying
patterns of conversations, and how to engage in more generative conversations that contribute to effective
relationships and productive outcomes.

Workshop Benefts:
• Learn how to analyze a conversation based on your own experience of feeling stuck, being in confict, or
caught in an unwanted repetitive pattern (URP), using CMM tools.
• Develop awareness of the underlying logic, rules and contexts that create ‘the story’.
• Understand the multiple logics, meanings, and actions that shape your communication with others.
• Gain a new perspective on your own frame of reference, the frame of reference of others, and ‘what you are
making’ in conversation with others.
