Joan and Jeanie have co-created positive sustainable change with education institutions across the United States,
Caribbean and Canada. They have created new models in appreciative inquiry and advanced the practice of
collaboration. In this workshop, they return to the basics and invite participants to explore the fundamentals of
appreciative inquiry.

In our highly participatory time together, we will:
• Explore how appreciative inquiry can be used for team development, planning, organizational change,
and learning
• Examine the basics of appreciative inquiry and its principles
• Engage in an appreciative inquiry into leading change
• Dip into new models and thinking in appreciative inquiry

VISUALIZING YOUR LEADERSHIP TREE FROM ROOTS UP:
WHERE ARE WE NOW, AND WHAT DO WE NEED TO GROW STRONGER?

Location: Boca III LEADERSHIP

Presented by: Donna W. Jorgensen, Chair, Graduate Education, Delaware Valley University, Doylestown, PA

If an organization is to thrive, its leadership roots must be strong, its trunk strong, and its branches and leaves
growing outward from a shared mission and vision. Strong leadership must be based on understanding of
leadership theories that mesh well with the culture, mission, and vision of the institution. Participants will have the
opportunity to discuss the existing theoretical framework in their departments and colleges/university and then to
design their own leadership tree image that shows where they are currently and where they hope to go.

Participants will beneft by:
• Identifying and discussing the leadership theories that underpin their institutional or departmental structures.
• Creating a tree graphic that demonstrates the roots, trunk, branches, leaves and nutrients present in the
existing structure.
• Visualizing changes that can or must be made to promote growth in leadership.
• Sharing and supporting one another’s visions and possibilities.
• Determining ways to begin or extend campus conversations about leadership using the image created.
