HILARY PARMENTIER
Chair, English, Social Sciences, Humanites, Arts, Florida Keys Community,
Key West, FL

Hilary is a dynamic department chair. Hilary works in close collaboration with the
other faculty members to improve the teaching and learning at Florida Keys
Community College (FKCC). For example, this year she created shared resources
and assignments through the college’s learning management system for other
faculty to use. She also led the movement to ofer an open source textbook instead
of a traditional book for both English Composition I and English Composition II.

Additionally, Hilary worked with administration and faculty at the University of
Michigan to bring the Innovation in Education Conference to FKCC. This
conference provided excellent professional development opportunities for her
peers. Hilary not only helped organize the conference but also co-presented a
workshop on creating writing spaces and cross-curricular assignments.

For the last ten years, Dr. Jennifer Pettit has been the chair of the Department of
Humanities which includes over 30 full-time faculty and 50 part-time faculty and
eleven diferent disciplines. She is an incredibly skilled administrative leader, who
demonstrates mastery over budgets, processes and maintains exceptionally high
morale by selfessly championing colleagues. A pedagogical innovator, she led the
development of a minor in Indigenous studies and a Treaty 7 Field School course

people throughout Southern Alberta. Jennifer has been a tremendous advocate for
teaching excellence as demonstrated through the faculty negotiations committee
and the professional development committee. She has also been a leader among
chairs, continually called upon to provide mentorship. Highly respected across the
institution, it is my pleasure to nominate her for this richly deserved honour.
