Recently, Experiential Education Community College professionals from across Massachusetts collaborated in an
effort to develop standardized guidelines, policies and procedures for experiential education programs in the
The Chair Academy’s 23rd Annual International Leadership Conference
Massachusetts Community College system. As a result, a 75 page handbook of best practices was developed and
endorsed by all 15 Massachusetts Community College Presidents. This handbook outlines success factors, federal
regulations, and legal implications critical for practitioners/program administrators when designing, implementing,
supervising and assessing experiential education programs. This comprehensive handbook outlines standards,
pedagogy, planning, learning outcomes and assessment of the programs, along with standardized forms for use
across the MA CC system.

Evaluating faculty who design and teach online courses is a complex and often confusing process for Department
Chairs and Deans. One way to augment this process is to integrate peer assessment in a thoughtful and systematic
manner. However, peer assessment can be a challenging task to implement with faculty. This session will provide
insights and guidelines for developing and implementing peer assessment for faculty who design and teach online
courses. Additionally, the roundtable will address the leader’s role in facilitating the creation of a peer assessment
process.

The attendees will beneft by:
• Understanding why peer evaluation is important in the faculty annual evaluation process.
• Better understand key components to include when developing a peer assessment rubric for the design and
instruction of online courses.
• Consider ways to integrate peer assessment in an annual, systematic manner.
• Outline potential drawbacks and solutions of the peer assessment process.
• Connect the roles and responsibilities of great leaders and peer assessment.
