THE SCRABBLE PRINCIPLE:
A CREATIVE LEADER’S GUIDE TO BUILDING THE BEST “WORDS”

Location: Alpine 1

Presented by: Scott J. Wakefeld, Chair of Art & Design, Community College of Aurora, Denver, CO

“When you connect the unconnected, you create the unexpected.”
Michael Bingham, artist
The Chair Academy’s 23rd Annual International Leadership Conference
In the game of Scrabble, some people tend to focus intently on their own seven letter tiles asking, “What word can
I make with what I have?” The power of the game, however, is in collaboration and building upon another player’s
high-scoring word. In an academic world of distinct disciplines and separate silos, the creative leader must win by
seeing the whole “game board” turning other players into partners, and creating new solutions to old problems.

Enjoy this interactive, game-playing workshop and learn:
• How to understand and use the creative process
• How to apply the scrabble principle to generate fresh ideas and accomplish your vision
• How to see the systems, randomness, and structures at play
• How to score the most points by maximizing collaboration
• How to choose or create the right resources
