About the Virtual Academy: Essentials 2 LEAD

About the Virtual Academy: Essentials 2 LEAD

Leadership involves all of us, as every organization, country, community, and culture are affected by the quality of leadership that exists and how it exerts itself. It challenges where we were, helps define who we are, and is most influential in building capacity and creating a collective vision to achieve where we want to go. Great leadership is intentional.

As an emerging or progressive leader, you lead with an intention: How can I be a more effective leader? Continuing your transformational journey accelerates your credibility as a leader and builds confidence in your leadership capacity.

The Essentials 2 LEAD academy is designed for all levels of leaders. This virtual academy delivers a collaborative and interactive environment that creates a learning community. It explores relevant and thought-provoking topics to help you identify the kind of leader you want to be so you can set important goals for moving forward. Each session engages powerful conversations and inquiries to provide insight, challenge assumptions, and encourage listening and reflection for ways to implement tools and strategies that promote positive, proactive, and sustained success.

Modules and Sessions

L - Leading on Purpose
Leadership is intentional; it is learning by doing. Everyone can learn to be a better leader, and the first tenet of leadership is knowing yourself. Self-discovery provides opportunities for mindful reflections and realizations that help us better understand and affirm our values, purpose, philosophy, practices, and wellbeing. With the increasing complexity of our roles and responsibilities, how can we be more conscious and conscientious about leading and leadership?
Session 1:  Alignment and Wellbeing
Session 2:  Leadership Practices

E - Engaging Self and Empowering Others
Great leaders believe they can achieve the extraordinary, collaborating with others along the way. Establishing a framework for understanding yours and others’ talents, workplace priorities, preferences, and tendencies are important steps to becoming more effective when working with colleagues and teams. Practicing positive communication promotes optimism and resilience, providing opportunities to leverage talent and build cohesive, high-trust teams. How can you build common ground, foster team spirit, and influence proactive communication practices?

Session 3:  Strengths: Developing and Applying Your Talents
Session 4:  Workplace Behaviors and Styles

.A - Actions and Interactions
It takes courage to confront the realities of bias, stand up to it, and advocate for a welcoming and fair culture within your team and throughout your organization. Courage alone will not ensure change. Leaders at every level can build their competence and confidence and learn to make better choices that lead to sustainable results if they identify bias and build a set of skills that promote empathy, curiosity, respect, and connection. How can you build engagement and inclusion in your organization and become a better agent for change?
Session 5:  Unconscious Bias
Session 6:  A Catalyst for Change

D - Deliberate Leadership
To survive and thrive in today’s highly volatile, complex, and challenging workplace, leaders at all levels need to be able to think strategically while acting tactically. The right balance between strategic thinking, planning, and acting drives learning and keeps an organization adaptive, innovative, and agile. The strength of a strategic mindset is in the exploration of creative strategies that help chart a decisive and aligned course of action. Through performance assessment, leaders engage in innovative problem-solving techniques that inform decisions and desired results. How can you develop your strategic mindset and learn to resolve problems that influence action, accountability, and results?
